Circularity at
Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre

The event industry has a reputation for its single-use culture and waste.

At Messukeskus Helsinki, one of the largest event venues in the Nordics, we take pride in having circularity embedded in all our operations.

• We are part of the sharing economy; our clients have no need for their own showrooms, virtual studios, or meeting rooms as they can purchase the service from us.
• With up to 1,000 events annually, we use only high-quality products (AV equipment, chairs, stage structures, etc.) that withstand extensive use by our clients.
• We strive to prolong the life of our furniture and equipment by, for example, having our chairs regularly reupholstered. Some of our chairs will celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2023. We also have our porcelain plates restored by local ceramists.
• Our in-house designer and carpenter work as a team; all wood constructions built in our studio are remodeled and reused.

We avoid single-use products by choosing

🡪 porcelain and silverware instead of disposable dishes and cutlery

🡪 carpet tiles

🡪 no-plastic office

🡪 digital screens instead of printed paper

We reduce energy and water consumption by investing in new technologies, such as led devices, water-saving bubble nozzles, motion sensors, heat recovery and district cooling.

We strive to zero waste, and 99% of the waste generated is recycled or reused.
